There is approximatly 25 minutes till show time as I tap this out on my iPhone. The last element of focus in prayerful preparations is that our joy in Christ would be at it’s peak. Ultimately all other concerns melt away when our full joy is in Christ. Tiredness, lack of focus, weary and all the rest vanish when Christ is our rest, focus and sustainer.

After returning from three weeks of being out and about and landing once again at the Apple store for my first day back from work - I decided I would enjoy some good ‘ol fish n’ chips from McGraths Fish House. My mistake. (more…)

In under two days from now I will be fully emerged in the on goings of being the logistical head of the Ichthus 2008 summer camp. I look forward to this camp each year for two primary reasons. The first reason is minor - I like planning events, and so, planning a summer camp for 66 people is, while busy, an enjoyable task for me. The second I look forward to Ichthus is the fact that it is JUST one28. I am a strong advocate for our ministry seeking the lost and being witnesses to our friends and neighbors as we spread God’s word - that is great.
We have a camp for that.
Ichthus provides the opportunity for just our students to spend concentrated, one on one interaction with their small group leaders and their fellow small group attendees. Ichthus is the chance for our ministry to take a deep breath (particularly following WFS) and focus on Jesus.
Ichthus is a time for worship. A day in - day out corporate fellowship in the praise and adoration of our creator, surrounded by His creation.
To top off all of that excitement, I could not be much more exited about this year’s theme. Jesus is Better. At first glance the child-like simplicity of the title can come across almost irreverent; but look closer and you will see that there is no greater truth to be had.
We will be studying from Hebrews this year and the foundations of faith in the church. We will see the patterns that Christ has set in place for us to follow and we will see the reason for this great path we call the Christian walk - the reason is that Jesus truly is better than any other thing we can possibly imagine. Better than school. Better than work. Better than friends. Better than family. Better than life. That’s the life he has set before us and he calls us to it because has the right to do so.
For as much as I do enjoy Ichthus then, as with any endeavor for spiritual things there comes resistance by the one who seeks disunity. That is why I ask for, covet and list the following quick points that you can join with me in prayer about so that this year would be another marked point of growth in our students lives.
Pray that the students hunger for the word, their small group time and time with their leaders.
Pray that Lord continues to grace us with his protection from the physical dangers that are ever present.
Pray that the students will fully grasp the camp theme - following Christ in faith because he is BETTER.
Pray that the Lord will sustain me as I lead the camp and sustain the fellow leaders as they deal with physical exhaustion (most of which are not “campers”) and spiritual drain.
Pray for your own students that their hearts will be softened to the word and that God would grace them by opening their eyes if they have been previously closed.
Pray that I continue to rely on God’s grace in the short time leading to and during the camp and that my own focus would be spiritual first, logistical second.
I appreciate the great body of prayer warriors in our church and I know that the four or five of you who will read this blog can be instrumental in requesting the prayer support from the rest of our awesome, local body. Thank you and enjoy.
